Imani house of Fashion

Liz Ogumbo is a fashion designer, a singer and a model.
Like Severine Devailly, she usually models her own clothes: when you are that hot, why shouldn't you?

I like her brilliant colourful collection. Last year, her colour theme was black, red and white and orange and white. Few dresses are imposing their pouffy shoulders a bit too much but i generally like it. It is flirty and has a great vibe about it.

Liz Ogumbo launched her collection at the Arise Africa fashion Week, may i just say: wow! You go girl! She was apparently not present at this year Fashion Week but i hope she is preparing an even more colourful collection for next year.

There is no update on the diva's website regarding any new collection but i sure can't wait to see it.

Lovely Ki2

I am not talking about Killer Instict game or a Mistubishi! I am talking about the fashion label KI2 by Rachel Mutindi.

Rachael is an up coming fashion designer, with vibrant ideas and creativity.
From an humble background in the Kenyan countryside, she uses her raw and extremely personalized vision of fashion to express a growing emotion of vibrance, simplicity and elegance.
Her designs represent her strong intention to bring fashion for all ages, colours and pockets coupled with a strong attention to ethical principles.

She is then one of Lalesso's competitor. They are both using khangas, promoting fair trading and Kenya. Great stuff for Africa.
I love her collection, it is very colourful and original. I like the way she plays with very bright colours, unlike Lalesso.
There is a fantastic mix of orange and green i particular enjoy: it is very sexy and celebrates Africa.

Lalesso goes wrong....

This new collection from LALESSO shows some weakness. I have always loved Lalesso but i don't get the feeling this time.
Lalesso is a fabulous company created by Alice Heusser and Olivia Kennaway. Lalesso uses vibrant African colours and material.
This year, the designers have gone for 4 panels of colours : black with pineapples, white and light turquoise, blue and yellow, soft pink and yellow with strips.
It is a bit fade, the designs are not appealing to me anymore.i do not recognise the Lalesso i love...

DESIGNS WAY TO SIMILAR....
The return each year of the short and lalesso skirt is enough

NOT LALESSO?
I do not recognise Lalesso's perfection for designs that make us feel beautiful.

I am disappointed by the colours: too fade... Disappointed by the garments: too similar to the previous collections or the opposite of Lalesso's style!

Lalesso rocks and i do not wish to see it fail... This fashion label does a lot for Kenya. The Spring Summer 2009 collection was stunning, it had Lalesso printed on silk, never seen before: It was an innovation. The Spring Summer 2010 collection was pretty,it was very hard to come up with a strong collection after the big success of the previous one, but it held it together.
The innovation for this new collection is the use of viscose instead of cotton: much lighter and nicer to wear but i am not sure it will be enough... I will always be a fan but maybe not a buyer anymore...

it must have been hard for Lalesso to keep up with expectations

Fashion in Africa: ask for Severine Devailly

I have never hidden the fact that i love Severine's design and i am absolutely IN LOVE with her new collection. It is very colourful, i wished she could have gone for a more "office" or casual style and not such beach style if i can say something negative about it. We have already LaLesso and Kikoy that are doing beachwear , i do hope Severine will turn her next collection to a more every day wear a little bit like Imani House of Fashion.

Promoting fair trading was one of Severine's target at her fashion show and i admire her for that. The quality of her clothes is great and not too pricey! For example, the most expensive price item she is selling is the cheapest price item in the LaLesso brand!
( do you get me? :-) )(source from 2009)

I love especially MATUU (MATUU Ultra cool and sexy dress-dungarees with pockets and 3 bows on each side for a hippy sexy look. Large, short and without any buttons or zip.Low neckline)
Available in black or turquoise

AFRICAN WOMAN

AFRICAN WOMAN is truly my favourite magazine. Articles, photos and covers are always fabulous. It keeps everything simple and nice and we relate to the girl on the cover which i love.
When i compare to other magazines as "Her" or "Drum"... "Her" is not meant to be for girls of my age so, it is difficult to judge: I am too young for this magazine! And "Drum", i like it but i don't relate to it and sometimes the quality of the writing is very poor and photos are "deja vu"

Of course, i always buy "Cosmopolitan" , "Vogue" and "Glamour" but it is damn expensive over here! Not like our great African magazines!

(Fabulous cover with Lisa Adams)

KAREN

Karen is a suburb of Nairobi in Kenya, lying south west of the city centre.
It is generally believed that the suburb is named after Karen Blixen, the Danish author of the colonial memoir Out of Africa; her farm occupied the land where the suburb now stands. Blixen herself declared in her later writings that "the residential district of Karen" was "named after me."[1] And Remy Martin, the developer who bought the farm in 1931 and converted it into residential lots for Nairobi's fast-growing population, confirmed that he named the neighborhood for Blixen.
The provenance of the name may in fact be more subtly complex. Blixen herself was known to her friends in Africa not as "Karen" but as "Tanne." The farm, a coffee plantation, was officially incorporated as the "Karen Coffee Company," and was owned by her extended family, most of whom lived in Denmark. The chairman of the board was her uncle, Aage Westenholtz.[2] Westenholtz may have named the company after his own daughter, Karen.
It's possible that Martin gave the area the name "Karen" because he thought the name of the coffee company came from Blixen herself; he may not have been aware that the farm's official name was derived from a different Karen. Either way - in 1975, Martin confirmed for Judith Thurman, Blixen's biographer, that in calling the district "Karen," he was thinking of the farm's famous resident.
The suburb of Karen borders the Ngong Road Forest and is home to the Ngong Racecourse. It is also known for its large European population. Karen and Langata jointly form a somewhat isolated area of high-income housing.
Blixen's home is still standing and is a local tourist attraction. The Nyumbani Orphanage is also located in Karen
